Nearest DEFIB™ is Starting Hearts program to increase access to defibrillators in public places. Administering a defibrillator within three minutes of a cardiac arrest increases the chances of survival to as high as 70%, yet only one in ten citizens knows the exact location of a nearby defibrillator. Nearest DEFIB™ utilizes a GPS-based system and a free downloadable mobile app to increase the public’s access to these lifesaving devices.
Starting Hearts manages a database to track all defibrillators in our services area and has worked tirelessly on increased strategic placement of these lifesaving devices. We now oversee more than 400 defibrillators in Eagle County along – one for every 130 citizens and one of the highest per capita rates in the nation.
